Sometimes a simple conversation or experience can give me an idea for a blog post. Today, a conversation with a friend made me think about how we all go through life trying to find something to be passionate about. Imagine what that word means. I read a fellow blogger’s post once that described finding your passion as discovering that “something” that you love to do so much that you lose track of all time when you are doing it. Imagine getting so involved in what you are doing that you lose track of time! I know I want to find that for my life! It sounds exciting! I think that we all secretly have this ache in our souls, but we fill it with the wrong things. We try to fill this void with temporary fixes: drinking, drugs, television, etc… I think that sometimes we can even try to fill it with a hobby, friends, by getting married, or any other mundane means of quieting the hurt. However, none of those things will ever solve our ache to be wholly consumed by something, to give our life meaning, or fulfill our want to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. There is only one answer to this ache and that is God/Jesus, my friends. He wants to be a part of our lives! He loved us so much that he sent his son to die on the cross for us. He loved us so much that he gave us our very first breath of life! His Holy Spirit lives inside each and every one of us. The ache you fill is no ache at all. It is the Holy Spirit trying to get your attention. The yearning that you feel to be a part of something bigger than your mundane life is God. We were made to be a part of something huge- His Kingdom and an Eternal Life that we gain through believing in him. However, believing is not enough. We were also called to live it! We are called to be separate from this world! (2 Corinthians 6:17) We are called to a higher form of living that starts in our personal lives. We have to control ourselves and our environments, take the time to get to know God, and start living our purpose in His Eternal Kingdom. We are called to go out and make disciples (Matthew 28:19). God wants us to be passionate about something too! He wants us to be passionate about Him! He wants our wholehearted commitment to be to him! (Matthew 22:37). He gave us all gifts and talents to serve Him with (1 Peter 4:10), but it is our job to go out and do it (James 2:14-26). So ask yourself these questions: “Am I serving God with my entire, mind, body, and spirit? Am I giving God all that I am? Can I give him more than my Sundays?
