The Haze

The Haze: The delusional fog that people walk around in when they are just going through the motions of living (my definition). One of the actual definitions is “a state of mental obscurity or confusion.”

Everyday we wake up, go to work, and come home to make dinner, watch some television, and go to bed. We think we are just in a routine, but is it really a “haze” that we are walking around in? Are we blind to the world around us? Are we passing hurting individuals that may need us to love them? Do we know anyone’s “story” besides our own? Walking around in a haze is like going through your days with a blindfold on. Before you know it, the day is gone, a week has passed, or you have floated through an entire month and realized that you have not really accomplished anything. You have never thought of yourself as a “lazy” person or just “existing”, but all of a sudden you realize that is exactly what you have become and are doing! You get mad at yourself for being exactly what you despise in others (if you are like me that is)! How do you break out of this mold of just “existing” in the every-day? Based on my own experiences-especially, in the last several months- you have to begin to take steps to take control back of your every-day! Start by setting some goals! Today my goals look a little like this:

1. Open my Bible- I have not been doing this lately, and have felt very down and depressed. It is so important to get into God’s word on a daily basis. I have to remind myself of this and sometimes make myself sit down and read my Bible, but it is worth it! I read an article yesterday on that offered some pretty good advice. Google “5 Practical Steps to Increase in Godly Wisdom,” and let me know what you think of the article. I loved it! It was very motivating! (What are your five files?)
2. Pray and be grateful for the things in my life- It has been a long time since I have used my gratitude journal, but I am starting again! I list 5 things that I am grateful for when I wake up in the morning and before I go to bed in the evening. It really helps me appreciate the things I have in my life, and the blessings God has bestowed on me. I, also, ask God to be with me in my day to day moments. Isn’t it easier to think of God standing right beside you in each moment rather than just every now and then? I am trying to learn to invite God into my movie choices at night, into the car with me when I am driving, and into my work place. It is not easy because it makes me feel dependent on someone, but I guess if you are going to be dependent on someone- Be DEPENDENT on God!
3. Write a blog article- (Currently accomplishing this feat). Blogging has always been one of my dreams because I love to write. It is an easy way to get my thoughts to the world, cheap or free financially, and I control what goes on my site for the most part. I want my words to be positive and uplifting, and to spread my joy of God using this site.
4. Stop letting social media be my only social interaction- I think we use social media to feel that “void” in our lives when we are feeling isolated, but what we have to realize is it creates more isolation. We can not use face book to substitute our need for interacting with the world around us. This task is especially hard for me because I am a very introverted individual.
5. Get up and Move Around, Eat Right- Exercise seems like the last thing that we want to do when we are tired or sad, but based on everything that I have researched for myself- it is what we need to do. I have found so many different work out methods that even the most “picky” individual should be able to find one that suits their fancy: Dance, go to a gym, Parkour, running/walking (with or without a friend), Tae Bo…The list goes on and on, so get up and find a work out method that works for you! Always mentioned with exercising is eating healthy. I have actually looking forward to trying to plan my healthy menu for the next week! Google “healthy eating” and use your own intelligence to build your own menu. You do not have to embark on one of the “starve-yourselves” diet to be healthy. You know what is at the beginning of the word “diet-” DIE. It is not about dieting! It is about a LIFE STYLE change!

Yesterday, I came to the conclusion that I have not been appreciating my “every-day!” It is a like a gift from God that I am just throwing away. How selfish is that?!
Today’s article is as much for me as my readers! I am using this article to start the next 30 days that I am going to use to get my self motivated again! To work towards my goals, spend more time with God, eat right and exercise! Is there anyone brave enough to spend the next 30 days doing this with me? Let’s see if taking action and implementing steps for life style change can really change our lives! I don’t want to walk around in the Haze of Existence! Do you?
